MEET YAUHENI

My name is Yauheni Zhdanovich. I am a political scientist, civic activist, volunteer, and the founder of ByAction.org, the first volunteer initiative in the United States dedicated to supporting victims of political repression from Belarus.

I was born in Minsk in 1989. I hold a bachelor’s degree in political science and law, as well as a master’s degree in innovation management from the Institute of Parliamentarism.

I began my professional career in the private healthcare sector and later moved into IT consulting, where I worked as a business intelligence implementation consultant. Since 2021, I have been living and working in New York City.

I have seen firsthand what our community is going through and the challenges we face. In my work, I consistently show a responsible, dedicated approach.

SYSTEMATIC APPROACH, ETHICS,
AND ACCOUNTABILITY

I am running for the Coordination Council, where I will work alongside a team of like-minded colleagues and allies to protect the rights of Belarusians in the United States, advocate for fair treatment, and help restore a sense of safety and confidence in the future.

Through our work and the results we’ve achieved, we have already shown a consistent, responsible, and ethical approach. We are ready to continue this work with dedication on behalf of all Belarusians.

To succeed, our movement needs strong institutions and a healthy political culture. We have to set the standard right now: taking full responsibility for our actions, respecting one another, and rooting out any attempts at manipulation, bullying, or power grabs.

I am running to build institutions governed by transparent rules and real accountability, not just personalities. When we value expertise and ethical leadership, we create structures strong enough to defend our community right now and capable of sustaining a democratic Belarus in the future.

INSTITUTIONS AGAINST DICTATORSHIP

In the struggle against dictatorship, the resilience and effectiveness of democratic forces depend on strong institutions and clear organizational frameworks. We cannot defeat a dictatorship with chaos.

Weak institutions leave organizations vulnerable to provocation and outside interference, leading to internal conflict and operational paralysis. A lack of transparency and a culture without accountability drive away qualified professionals. Without strict ethical standards and real consequences for destructive behavior, trust erodes. And without trust, neither unity nor effectiveness is possible.

Dictatorships survive on subservience and fear. In a democracy, the true currency is trust and reputation. Therefore, ethical violations and manipulation must be subject to impartial institutional review. A loss of trust must have tangible consequences for representation and influence.

My Priorities for Institutional Strengthening:

Transparent Decision-Making: Clearly defining mandates, boundaries of responsibility, and reporting structures.
Ethical Standards: Adopting a formal Code of Ethics and establishing a clear, transparent process for addressing violations.
Institutional Security: Safeguarding organizations against infiltration and smear campaigns.
Professional Competence: Valuing expertise and elevating the prestige of service within democratic institutions.

Democratic initiatives and organizations must strengthen their institutional frameworks, operate by the rules, and uphold unified ethical standards. Only robust institutions can protect people today and serve as the bedrock for a future democratic Belarus.
